Review of Dr. No (1962) by Benjamin N — 27 Nov 2009
The first "Official" bond movie is showing it's age, but that is very much a part of its charm. The film is very much a product of it's time, ageing mostly because of the chauvinism and racism that were inherent at the time of the 1960's.
It's a bond film though, and to be honest the chauvinism in the Sean Connery bond movies has always been part of its appeal for men in general. Though while being chauvinist, it also feature's one of cinema's first modern tough heroines in the form of Ursula Andress.
It's may be dated, but as a piece of 60's, cold war, spy fantasy the original James Bond will never loose it's appeal.
