Review of Dr. No (1962) by Lenny G — 20 Dec 2009
I haven't seen this in over 30 years. I can remember when my Dad took my brothers and I along with the Schenks to see a TRIPLE feature: Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger at the Chester Cinema.
This film holds up very well. Connery has always been and remains the coolest Bond (but I have to say, Daniel Craig is excellent). This film put the stamp on what would become an amazing series. Ursula Andress sets the standaard for all the Bond girls to follow and although her voice is dubbed, there is no use of a body double.
Low on gadgets, high on character, story and setting, in addition to creating one of cinema's most vibrant and recognized musical themes, Dr. No stands the test of time.
