Review of Downsizing (2017) by Stacy U — 26 Mar 2018
The movie started with an interesting hook, the science of going small, and it quickly went into how humans are bad for the planet and we are all doomed. I had to fight with myself to finish the movie in its entirety. I found myself actually fast forwarding through several slow, and might I say, over-the-top close-up face acting scenes. I also found the Vietnamese character amusing at first, but she very quickly began to grate on my nerves. Her voice and characterization was like fingernails on a chalk board. Matt Damon wasn't much better with his blank stares throughout the movie. The tone of the movie didn't even try to hide the lecture of "Oh the planet is dying and its 100% our fault! Humans are evil little creatures!" (Pun totally intended).
Overall, I felt it was a serious waste of time.
