Review of Downsizing (2017) by Jess W — 09 Jan 2018
SPOILER ALERT: Is Downsizing the worst movie of 2017? No. But, it is the most disappointing movie I have ever seen. The first trailer, in my humble opinion, was good. I haven't seen the second trailer but the first one was enough to get me excited.
I saw the movie and for the first 30 minutes of the movie, it lived up to my expectations. However, after Matt Damon's wife decides she doesn't want to be downsized, the movie completely flips and turns into a s*** show that has absolutely nothing to do with the whole idea of downsizing.
The characters wouldn't even need to be small because it has nothing to do with original plot or what we thought we were getting into when we saw the trailer. All the acting, especially the woman who plays the Vietnamese immigrant, is so, so, so terrible.
Matt Damon stops caring about halfway through the movie. Christoph Waltz, who has done some of my favorite performances in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, just never cared to begin with. Kristen Wiig gets about 15 minutes of screen time in the whole movie.
It is a complete and utter disaster. Do not see it. 2/10.
