Review of Downsizing (2017) by Ben Y — 25 Jan 2018
Very interesting film. I feel sorry for the many people here giving a bad review and even finding it boring. I admit you cannot tell where the story is taking you, but it is quite a ride. Not so much cinematographically, but storytelling-wise. It comes along as light-hearted, is filled with many delicate details and even funny moments, but under the surface it is a harsh hyperbole of society. Feel exposed to its egocentrism, inequality, hostility, cold indifference and great hypocriticism.
Beatifully crafted.
My only doubt is the ending, as being an environmentalist myself, I cannot quite grasp that the people caring for planet earth are being depicted as blind sect-like ideologistic fools, instead the moral winners are the ones caring only for the small cosmos created around themselves. I guess that´ll be my nut to crack.
