Review of Downsizing (2017) by Richard D — 23 Dec 2017
A film that's ultimately about nothing. Matt Damon plays a guy who is in no way in control of his situation. A sting of bad luck that spans years.
I think it's trying to be a romance and yeah the relationship does grow somewhat naturally, but the girl he falls for you just can't help but think about how pathetic his character is. I think they were trying to go for a 500 Days of Summer vibe, but it just doesn't work. The premise is neat but overall you're just left feeling empty.
Oh and the funny part in the trailer with the over sized Vodka, yeah that's not in the movie and that deleted scene was the funniest part. Surprisingly not a lot of gags regarding big things in tiny town.
It's a rental.
