Review of Downsizing (2017) by Kara K — 23 Mar 2018
It was a frustrating movie to watch. Because it had potential. There were three main story lines that any one of the could have been made into separate films, instead of trying to cram them into a single movie.
There was the Tiny Life facade- how everything seems perfect when you have money, but there is still a population that needs to do the dirty work. There was the personal story for Matt Damon's character.
And the least explored, but probably most interesting was how the two very different economies would get along in the same country. At what point would rights be taken away from the Tiny People OR would all of the Large People be forced to go small? And then the whole doomsday cult/Journey to the Center of the Earth part of it was just a throwaway plot that wasn't necessary AT ALL.
