Review of Downloading Nancy (2008) by Erno K — 13 Feb 2010
I probably just saw the most fucked up and depressing movie I will watch all year. And this shit is inspired by true events. What the hell is wrong with people?
This movie is painful to watch. I don't like anything this bleak. Even the colors seem to be muted. It's also a bit confusing, as the narrative jumps between time periods, which was not established clearly enough in my opinion. After a time it is obvious, but I had my moments of bafflement. Then, when I realized where the movie was heading, I started to long for the sweet ignorance again.
I guess there is some sort of message in here somewhere, but if there is, it was lost to me. I just felt like the film follows some devastatingly unhappy people, which was excruciating to witness. This puppy seriously needed a happy ending. Guess if there is one. I expected a different flick, had I known its true nature, I would not have watched this. What a goddamn downer. Someone might think a movie is good if it conjures up such strong emotions, but not this dude. Not this time. Two stars for the awesome, brave performances all around. Still, why?
I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Suicidal people probably jump off the nearest roof immediately after watching this.
