Review of Downfall (2004) by Olivier D — 20 Sep 2009

You know, I am really not sure what to think of this movie. It could be anywhere from 60% to 100%. It was certainly fresh though. I liked it. I already knew the girl would survive and Hitler would die, but it was interesting if all of that was true.

I don't know about the historical accuracy. I read some reviews that said it was accurate so that is a plus. It was very well made overall. It was a little hard to keep track of with the reading of the subtitles and all, but I probably got more information than just watching an American movie.

It seemed so authentic though to me. Hearing it in German and I assume they had the account of the girl made it very authentic. I think it was a German made movie and I got the feeling that they weren't depicting Hitler as the bad guy.

Which is wrong. I'm not saying that it was because it was a German film, but I am just saying. They were depicting the soviets as the bad people and the Nazis and the good people, and that is just flat out wrong.

Alright, I have come to my decision on what I will give it. 80%! I'll tell you why its an 80 and not higher or lower. It is not higher for the reason I just mentioned, because the Nazis were the protagonists.

I'm not sure if they meant to do that, or they meant to because that would give the movie a more authentic feel, but it is still wrong to do in my eyes. If their intention was to give it a more authentic feel, then they succeeded greatly, but I am not sure if it was.

If it was, I would consider giving this a 100%. It didn't immediately strike me as a 100%, and that is when I will give a movie a 100%. I don't know if it will ever happen, but a 100% has to be the best movie ever.

This was very very very good, but not the best that I think the movie world is capable of. It is very depressing though. People are committing suicide left and right in this movie. It isn't the most joyful movie, by any means.

Let me make this clear, this is a very high 80% it is very close to a 90% but I just can't bring myself to do it. It is one of the best movies I have seen. The authenticity, the suspense, and just how the movie was made was excellent.

The only thing wrong with this movie was the protagonist and antagonist. It was a little long, but I don't think it was long enough to take percentage points off. Movies really cannot get much better than this.

Overall, it was just captivating. I don't think it is possible not to like this movie. I would definitely suggest this to anyone and everyone. I feel like I am forgetting something, but if you are reading this and haven't seen it, GO ONLINE AND WATCH IT OR JUST RENT IT!!!Great movie!
