Review of Downfall (2004) by Danny P — 30 Sep 2011
As close as we'll get to the dark depths of Hitler's (and many of his acquaintances) last hours. Never shying away from Hitler's mind and state, this film also follows Hitler's friends, workers and officers whom, in some cases, ended their own lives; Goebbels, Krebs and Hitler's wife, Eva Braun to name a few.
As if I was a fly on the wall of this bunker, the film covers the murky depths of suicide, loyalty and fear but also the few moments of parties and care. Hirschbiegel took a big risk with this movie, but it paid off, massively.
