Review of Downfall (1997) by Kelsey L — 14 Aug 2010
I will be honest here: I saw the parodies before I saw the film and laughed for hours at most of them.
However, this film is not a laughing matter. The accuracy of Bruno Ganz's portrayal of Adolf Hitler was chilling right down to the German dialect with a slight hint at his Austrian roots. The film had me on my toes the entire time and the complexity of the character was tasteful. Tradul Junge, Hitler's personal secretary (then known as Frau Junge) goes through her last moments trying to defend Hitler and National Socialism - completely unknowing of the atrocities of the Third Reich.
