Review of Downfall (1997) by Dan K — 07 Feb 2011
Despite all Downfall's strong writing, pacing, historical accuracy and masterful acting it's nothing without Bruno Ganz at Adolf Hitler. His performance is mindblowing and convincing throughout even to the point where we begin to understand, acknowledge and even sympathise with the infamous dictator.
This film is probably known mostly for it's parodies of Hitler's outrage on YouTube, but it shouldn't be. It's a masterful insight into the mind and chaos of this infamous character, but it never gets too preachy in trying to teach the audience a history lesson.
I even learnt a few things I didn't know. Strong, powerful film-making.
