Review of Downfall (1997) by Colm G — 19 May 2011
(Spoiler Alert, even though most people know what happened in ww2).
Somehow a film has made a man of pure evil have a sense of humanity in him. Downfall is a powerful and haunting film about the last few days of WW2.
The cast were amazing, all of them. I couldn't find a fault with anyone. Every small detail, every smirk, ever turn of the head was perfect. Seriously, they were outstanding.
The whole style of the film is superb. Throughout most of the film it's dark and grim, but at the very end you see the sun shining for the first time when the war is over.
This is actually one of the best foreign films I have ever seen, and defiantly one of the best war films ever.
