Review of Downfall (1997) by Stephen E — 30 Jul 2012
Though "Downfall" stumbles a little in its final act and closes on a hurried note, it happens to be an entirely interesting account of one of history's biggest monsters that isn't crushed by a monumental running length, despite having most of its action take place in a single area.
Bruno Ganz's portrayal of Hitler is effective because he never overdoes it, always treating his character like he's a regular human being. As well, "Downfall" isn't just any walk through the park, and its unremittingly grim and depressing tone will take a toll on its viewers, but those who do see it won't be disappointed by what it has to offer.
