Review of Downfall (1997) by Mark O — 21 Sep 2014
Hitler was depicted as a humane leader here, only if he is suffering from anxiety and becomes hysterical. That is somehow understandable as he is facing continuous betrayals, which makes him pitiful to audience.
The real evil is Joseph Goebbels and his wife, but their acts are somehow loyal from another viewpoint. All in all, it's an unconventional movie on Nazism. It wouldn't be that memorable without Bruno Ganz's electrifying performance as Adolf Hitler.
