Review of Down with Love (2003) by Mari J — 27 Apr 2008
Ok, my heart says I should give this one less stars since this by no means is a tribute to the '60s Day&Hudson comedies but rather a piss-off, a mockery to innocence. Also Renee Zellweger gives me the creeps after "the second Bridget Jones" (the first one was good) which I happen to think is one of the worst movies ever made.
Enough about that cr*p - Zellweger is mostly a solid or even a great actor and same goes with McGregor: they are good in this flick but the one that really steals the show is David Hyde Pierce who has the best lines ('the Rock Hudson stuff') and is insanely funny.
The Twists and turns at the end work (surprisingly perhaps) and therefore this deserves 3 stars. I'm not commenting D. H. Pierce (a gay) and typecasting in general but in this movie it was THE POINT like it was THE POINT to typecast a real-life gay Rock Hudson in the '60s.
WATCHED: April 26, 2008.
