Review of Down Terrace (2010) by Robert H — 14 Nov 2010
Not since the Sopranos have I seen a more dysfunctional mob family... and I never cared much for the Sopranos either.
The film is primarily dialogue driven similar to say Kevin Smith's Clerks or Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs and while I did enjoy both those films, I believe they had something more going for them. Down Terrace is filled with great dialogue, fantastic acting and a few moments of action and/or levity it's just not a very interesting story. At least not for me.
The fact that most of the film takes place in the one English flat didn't exactly make it very interesting. So like Clerks and Reservoir Dogs, be prepared for a very uninteresting setting. But unlike Clerks or Reservoir Dogs, the flow of the film just didn't work for me. It's very choppy and rough and being shot handheld documentary style didn't help either.
If you're looking for a change from the Guy Ritchie styled gangster film and you really enjoyed The Sopranos or the dialogue heavy films of Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino, Down Terrace was made for you.
Personally, I would have rather had watched something else as the film bored me. And judging by the snoring in the theater, I wasn't the only one.
