Review of Down in the Valley (1984) by Matthew R — 30 Nov 2007
Great performances all round, and beautifully shot. What starts out as a seemingly cliche, if well made, story of forbidden love becomes a lot more complex around 2/3rds into the film. We learn that everything isn't as it seems.
Some people complain about the ending becoming too ridiculous, but if anything I think it's perfect in representing what norton's character is all about. He wants so much to be someone he's not that he'll lie to himself and others to make it true.
