Review of Down in the Valley (1984) by Paul P — 04 Jan 2008
A pretty interesting flick which creates a real air of impending menace as the story moves along.
Ed's portrayal of Harlan is just great. Living in a cowboy dreamworld, he portrays him initially as a charismatic oddball through to a seriously unstable dude trying to cope with the consequences of his actions.
David Morse and Evan Rachel Wood are reliably excellent as well. This is a slow burning flick that is well shot and directed. There are shades of Taxi Driver and Travis Bickle I guess, but it is a very different tale which you can't really compare it to.
Fine performances from Ed and co make this a goodie.
