Review of Down by Law (1986) by Eric D — 04 Feb 2008
What an interesting cast, Roberto Benigni, Tom Waits and John Lurie. Perhaps Jarmusch's best work. It follows three 'criminals' and their escape from prison. The camera is a patient observer, the shots are well composed and truely beautiful.
Jarmusch manages to show off New Orleans in a gritty almost noir style. Absolutely amazing. Some of the scenes will turn to unexpected dreamlike events that just seem unbelievable. Great film.
