Review of Down by Law (1986) by John H — 07 Jul 2008
Nothing is cooler than having Tom Waits and John Lurie bounce dialogue off of each other. That is both the films biggest strength and its biggest flaw. I felt while the film had an awesome vibe and atmosphere, The plot faltered quite a bit.
In fact, the coolness of Waits and Lurie wears thin after about an hour. Benigni is hilarious though, and adds an interesting dynamic to the story. Overall, I was a "little" disappointed, but even an average Jarmusch film is better than 99% of anything out there.
This films coolness and style makes this a favorite of mine regardless.
