Review of Down by Law (1986) by Lilian W — 17 Sep 2010
There was "Chemistry", there was "Charisma" and there was "whimsy"; the things you'd expect to find in a classic Jarmusch, but there was more; In addition to the three brilliant actors in front of the camera, there was an out-of this world brilliant artist behind the camera, who manifested here, more than any other thing I've seen by him yet, that he is a master of his tools; a man who has knows how to capture the essence of both the cosmopolitan and the natural without much fuss. For me, it was a complete work of art and I'm glad that my favorite cadre from the film is also its poster.
A note on the side: Tom Waits is drop-dead sexy and Roberto Benigni is the classic Italian comedian.
