I love a movie that can take you somewhere, this case, being a Catholic school/parish in 1964, and it does it so well. The scriptwriting and cinematography is flawless, and the way it chronicles everyone's involvement really takes you there, and makes you feel for the characters.
The symbolism used to hint at deeper, more powerful things makes the viewer think.
