Review of Double Team (1997) by Bobby L — 20 Jan 2010
Uggh! Painful. Mickey Rourke is an awesome bad guy, always, all the time. Even in crap like this. This is easily Van Damme's worst performance, and part of that has to do with the shallowness of everything in the movie.
These are the worst fights, and most obviously fake ones, I have seen in any of his films, and would be subpar even for era-Segal (as in, Segal movies from the same time this movie came out). The editing in some places makes no sense and we're left to decipher what's going on.
The direction is lazy and bland. The plot is actually a bit original, which gave me some hope, but it's a jumbled clusterfuck of an assembly job. Dennis Rodman is Dennis Rodman. Showy, flashy, vapid, insipid, and annoying; so much like the movie.
