Review of Double Indemnity (1973) by Kyle S — 06 Apr 2009
Double Indemnity is a film which fully embodies its genre, all the classic noir elements are present: venetian blinds, diagonal lines, a femme fatale and a victim of fate. Fred MacMurray takes the central role as victim of fate.
He gives a convincing performance as a typical saleman transformed into a calculated killer. Barbara Stanwyck delivers a faultless performance as the coldhearted and seductive Phyllis Dietrichson who enlists Walter Neff in a plot to kill her husband and cash in the insurance money.
Although the film may seem cliched today, it is a must see.
