Review of Double Indemnity (1973) by Ben H — 04 Aug 2009
This movie sums up noir in a nutshell, like I couldn't get enough of it while watching. Understanding America at this time in history can allow me to see why it took 8 years for the script to be approved by hollywood's standards, why this film is one of my all time favorites! It's stood the test of time and why it's surpassed the films in it's day, especially the film it lost best picture to at the academy awards that season.
But the film is controversal because of its content, probably why it didn't win, politics, people in america didn't like it at first and there would've been outrage. Nonetheless it did get nominated still, shows that there's something there, something more to this film.
The 1st person narration, classic noir, just has me on edge waiting to see what's going to happen next. I simply love everything about it.
