Review of Dope (2015) by Waleed A — 06 Apr 2016
Excellent work. I would gladly see this several times over, if I could avoid the original music. That is pretty much my main bitch on it. I don't like faux-punk electronic versions of a rock band, poorly lip-synced by the actors.
Aside from that, this was a story that needed to be told in the way that it was, and everybody in it is exuberant and silly and serious. I want to bring up the fact that the scene where the drug dealers are discussing Obama's drone policy (and the subsequent police raid) was more poignant and relevant than anything that occurred in "Eye in the Sky".
To its benefit, the film felt like a live action episode of The Boondocks (minus Uncle Ruckus) plus Syd the Kid. I wish I would have taken the chance to see it in theaters, but I was too busy reviewing crap films to take the time.
I will not squander an opportunity like this again. Watch it, you will dig it, and you might just learn a little something about life and the world around you.
