This is a silly product of the Road Warrior / Escape From New York genre, complete with pink mohawks, amazon warrior women, stuff blowing up for no reason, plenty of gratuitous violence and B-grade gory effects.
It was also entertaining to hear from Fine Young Cannibals, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood on the soundtrack. Fun flick... as long as you don't try to take it seriously.
