I love this director and was a little apprehensive when I saw so many poor reviews. Finally watched it last night and WOW! I wish I'd seen it in the theater. This is more in line with "Sean of the Dead" than "28 Days Later"--if you love the same movies as Neil Marshall, you'll love playing spot the homage. Is is a bit ridiculous? Sure, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
Best bit: the Baseball Fury in the audience during Sol's BBQ.
