Review of Doom (2005) by Kevin B — 14 Dec 2009
So here I am, Doom. Never played any of the games although im a FPS player, So I dont know if there's story to know before hand or not. Fortunately it was clear that knowledges of any story relating to the game wasn't necessary.
The starting scenes are dramatic, and a punch to you right at the start. Not seeing what's there made me want to carry on watch and actually see what it was, I liked that.
Acting in some places is questionable but overall when the action is kicking and the suspense is high, sometimes its easy to over look the problems of acting here, which I think the film deserves.
The link to the game however, being the 1st person view for a short period of time, felt out of place. I liked that it tried to add links to the film by the perspective of view, but for me, it just didn't work.
The effects are pretty good, its not a total throw together job. The action is easy on the eyes and actually I enjoyed most parts. Story-wise I don't see major issues with it.
Its not a perfect film by a long shot, but the action sequences and suspense followed with the bad acting at times and direction not as good as it could be, leave it being an above average film for me.
I think it achieves what it wanted to achieve to be.
