Review of Doom (2005) by Carlos A — 12 Jan 2010
Doom is a film based on the popular first person shooter games of the same name. The story is about a group of mercenary-soldiers who are sent off on a mission to investigate what is killing the population on a scientific colony on planet mars...
While the films starts on a very average note, with a very classy mood around it (on the likes of Alien or Predator films) and in the first third you may even geet the idea the film is not going to be that good (hence most of the naysayers I suppose), around the third part of the story (when the team is back on earth with the enclosed facility) is when things really began to stand out in a very good way as the Sarge (Dwayne Johnson, who by the way pulls out a nice performance) starts to show his dark side.
The script is acerage and some situation based dialogues are very good, overall, on storytelling terms, Doom is OK expirience, not the deepest thing around but enjoyable nontheless.
The first person scene is the mayor appeal of the movie and, rest assured, is very neat as it stays as a true homage to the game it was based with quite an innovative camerawork rarely seen on movies.
If you are up to a sci-fi terror movie with lots of action give this one a chance.
