Review of Doom (2005) by Shane B — 26 Jun 2010
Sarge: Are you gonna shoot me?
John Grimm: Yeah, was thinking about it.
Sarge: What you got left?
John Grimm: Half a clip. You?
Sarge: [points BFG] I've got one round.
Doom, a movie that is all to faithful to the video game classic . There are many reasons fans of the game will love it, and others will loathe it at its very core.
This film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak(Also director of Cradle 2 the Grave), and Direcor of Photography of various films, most notabley Species).
Doom is a film that offers pretty low budget CGI, compared to most Sci_fi films. It isn't thrilling, and it isn't very compelling, or niether does it have a solid script.
What does Doom have exactly? Some intense scenes that stand on thier own. Lots of action, even if some of it doesn't make sense. The acting wasn't really all too spectacular, but The Rock was actually pretty good in his role. Karl Urban did rather well, and Rosamund Pike was also good. Richard Brake was rather awful though.
The film was slow, and not as fast as I would of liked, but some really good scnes made up for that. Yes, the CGI and effects could use a tune-up, but they could've been alot worse. Basicly, what I am saying is that, if you are not a fan of the game, then there isn't much new to offer to anyone else who doesn't like it, but If you like Sci-Fi films, you might enjoy it. Yes, I must also say, the ending was a little dissapointing, but It was a good enough film despite that.
Sarge: Semper Fi, Motherfucker! Faithful to the corps John!
