Review of Doom (2005) by Ann . — 21 Jun 2009
Doom has no logical premise of any kind. But it makes a commendable effort though to resemble a video game and gameplay, and the scene where the action is shown in first-person mode worked for me the same reasons it didn't work for the critics.
Roger Ebert's review described Doom as "like when some kid comes over and uses your computer and won't let you play." I used to watch my brother play DOOM every week while sitting behind him waiting for my turn with the TV, so I know exactly what that experience feels like.
At the time, video games were still considerably mindless, and Doom being a mindless action movie should be rightfully appropriate.
