Review of Doodlebug (1997) by Albert K — 22 Aug 2012
I was under the impression that I had become a diehard Nolanfan with "The Dark Knight" trilogy and "Inception", all of them movies with a powerful intellectual heart. I became obsessive with Nolan after watching them many times, after I put him as my avatar picture, and after I insanely declared him to be my personal inspiration should I ever have the opportunity to be involved in filmmaking.
.. but, just like Alfred Hitchcock's figure, there is nothing like studying the man's insight origins in order to understand his style's raw nature. And by raw, I mean midly pure, tasteful occurence that comes with the mere conception of the idea, nothing more.
When you get a revolutionary idea and you materialize it, it is far more effective then than later... and if you watch Alfred Hitchcock's very first works, you will understand this. I saw Chris Nolan's "Doodlebug", and I dawned on the fact that the man is a genius.
