Review of Don't Torture a Duckling (1972) by Devastator9 . — 24 Jul 2010
Some have said this is Fulci's best film. I can't be certain of that yet being I've seen seven of his 30-some-odd films. But of of the rest of his work, this is the one to top for sure. It's professionally crafted but with some real artistry (Dutch angles!), Barbara Boucher in an unforgettable scene with a young boy (not entirely inappropriate but borders on it), some violence that never goes over the top, only goes so far for the horror of the scenes depicted (Fulci doesn't show the boys' deaths, only the beating the crazy witch-lady takes after she's released from jail, and at the end for the real murderer as a face is splintered away on the rocks).
It's still "just" a Giallo, but it's one of the three or four that I could be considered essentials.
