Review of Don't Say a Word (2001) by George E — 19 Jan 2010
Most films I see are bad, storywise, but they're good, technically (direction, music, visual effects, etc and etc). But this film was the other way around. I thought the story was good, although it had plot holes and the beginning dragged, but the technical parts weren't good. I felt like I was watching an episode of some TV show. That was mainly cos of the music. Dunno why the composer used electric guitar distortions during tense scenes. It was the music mostly that made the film like a TV show. The direction, the cinematography and the editing also seemed B-ish/TV show-ish. They should've gotten a better crew. I think this was a low-budget film or something.
I thought that female cop was totally unnecessary in the film. The actress playing her (she was quite pretty) was totally miscast. She didn't suit the role. Even the other doctor wasn't needed in the film. It made the film confusing when they were around.
Brittany Murphy was brilliant in this. Some great damn acting by her. I can't believe she wasn't nominated for an Oscar, or at least a Golden Globe. Also, she was gorgeous in this film. Brown hair suits her quite a lot. Dunno why she went blonde (I never found her pretty in 8 Mile because of that blonde hair). Strange, now there are two people in this film who've died, Steve Irwin and Murphy. RIP.
