Review of Don't Look Up (2021) by Giovanethomazin — 28 Dec 2021
The movie lacks subtlety, which is important. But when you consider everything else that makes up a film (plausibility of the facts that make up the plot and how the network of such facts reflects the real world; behavior of characters; staging of actors; etc.), it's a pretty good movie.
The true disaster is the review of the professional critics, which uses just one factor to determine the entire quality of the film. Since the biggest problem with the film was that it was obvious and not an implied message, it seems to me that critics demand a sense of elitism.
Again noting that subtlety is important, but the weight that critics have given to basically this single factor is clearly disproportionate.
A solid 7 - 7.5 describes the film well.
