Review of Don't Look Up (2021) by Tarekali — 26 Dec 2021
Observing the brainwashing power of global fascist autocrats and tech barons, this movie is completely plausible and realistic. In this day and age, a large population of the world does not believe what they see, and abhor science, logic and rational thinking.
Instead, a thin privileged slice of humanity is immune to empathy for those less fortunate and insists on a steady diet of sweet coated lies. It seems a large chunk of us simply lack the digestive system to absorb difficult truths.
But then again mass rejection of facts runs rampant all over the world. Dicaprio and Lawrence give outstanding performances as sincere and dedicated scientists, absolutely dumbstruck by the apathy and arrogance of figures in authority.
The rest of the heavy-hitting cast delivers strong performances too, especially Hill, Streep and Blanchet, as is expected. This movie is a wake-up call for society. Whether it is a planet threatening virus or comet, all of us need to get back to rational thinking, logical analysis and open-mindedness.
Not everything is a conspiracy, use your common sense, hopefully, some is remaining.
