Review of Don't Look Now (1973) by Augusto A — 22 Jul 2008
If it wasn't for one of the biggest "what the fuck?!" endings I've ever seen, but one that manages to pay off the build up perfectly, I think I would have rated this a little lower. Very suspenseful, some incredibly creepy bits scattered throughout, but no one should watch this expecting a straight forward thriller.
Its focus isn't on building a regular narrative, but in creating a certain state of mind for the main character and a certain mood for the audience. If nothing else, it's interesting at least as an incredible exercise in editing, even if a few scenes seem to go on forever and never get anywhere.
