Review of Don't Look Now (1973) by Daniel S — 13 Sep 2009
I know this is a movie that I'm supposed to like but I just don't feel it. There seem to be a decent story underneath but it is spoiled by atrocious directing and editing. Everything that happens in it just looks fake because of this, very much including the "big surprise" scene at the end.
Scenes that are supposed to be tense aren't, and arguments are hardly felt at all. The numerous uses of symbolism (colour, glass, water, etc.) makes this feel more like a film studies movie than something to just enjoy for its own sake.
But according to everyone else I'm wrong.
