Review of Don't Look Now (1973) by Ann D — 13 Oct 2010
I have no idea how an oblique mood piece loaded with surreal, unconscious imagery regarding the loss of innocence, the chipping away of time and tradition became a story about a serial killer. the film's ending is completely terrifying yet makes absolutely no sense, narratively or emotionally with what has preceded it.
julie christie is excessively chipper in this- her mania is never addressed in the way it needs to be. I loved many aspects of this film, especially its lynchian weirdness (of course the film predates lynch) and its reliance on color and motif.
but the ending really left me unsatisfied.
