Review of Don't Look Now (1973) by Noah R — 18 Jun 2008
The horrifying finale is enough reason to sit through this movie. Besides that this is definitely a creepy movie, with a knockout beginning and a knockout ending. The performances by Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie feel very real, and the rough direction by Roeg gives the film a very real, non-cliche atmosphere. Nicolas Roeg's background as a cinematographer serves him well here. He isn't credited as the DP but his influence on the photography is obvious, and one gets the feeling that every frame of this movie is done just the way he wanted.
The score by Pino Donaggio greatly complements the film, and I feel this collaboration is just as good as what he did with Brian De Palma.
A lot has been said about the sex scene, but people who focus on that are clearly missing the point.
