Review of Don't Look Now (1936) by Stephen M — 10 Oct 2007
I read about this movie in a book titled '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die'. After seeing this picture, I think they might want to reconsider the submitted list. To its credit, there's some very inventive camera work taking place here (especially in Venice), and the water drops on the photo slides makes for some great effects.
But the plot itself, billed as a 'Psychic Thriller', is more sentimental than scary. And the 'horrifying ending', is hardly that. By the time one reaches the end, the twist is given such small indication it evokes a "Huh?" instead of a "Gasp!" Not a bad movie, but sadly, it didn't live up to the hype surrounding it.
