Review of Don't Look in the Basement (1973) by Jordan R — 24 Feb 2009
Are you people GOONS? .
Dont look in the Basement is a joy from its eery introduction credits to its mesmerising mindf""" climax! Imaginative, atmospheric, romantic and horrifying. I first inherited this interesting piece of film history at some underground second hand market, from a stall choked with mindless 70s/80s slasher movies like Mutant, Cellar Dwellar and Lucifer (all awful examples of the much slated old scholl horror genre), but this was, ... is, something else completely. Chosing not to step in the footsteps of the other popular macabre 'son of satan', 'zombie frenzy' pictures of its time, Basement goes for the chilling, whats going on, whos doing this? factor. The story is presented carefully and thoughtfully, the acting is typically 70s horrorshow but works immaculate against its backdrop..

The best horror isnt blood 'n guts, its beautifully presented psychological smut. A wonderful and dreamy terror classic! Completely original and suspenseful, worth whatever cash you can throw at it!.
