Review of Don't Kill It (2016) by John M — 11 Oct 2017
Exactly what it looks like. So this is about a demon that gets unearthed in a small Mississippi town. The only person who seems to have any idea on what is going on goes by the name of Jebediah Woodley (Dolph Lundgren).
He has a few tools in his arsenal that will possibly give this town a fighting chance if he can assemble the right team. I know I must sound like a broken record, but this is another Netflix flick that I watched for the runtime, as it is only 80 minutes long.
This is the kind of movie that you might catch a glance at when passing your local grocery store's Redbox and never give a second thought to. It shouldn't come at a huge surprise to hear that the quality matches.
Now this, in my opinion, starts off on the wrong foot with the mostly unnecessary killing of a dog. It's just not something that I like seeing on a film unless absolutely necessary, so I had a bit of a disconnect there right off the bat.
It did, however, set the tone in that it is not messing around, as it was quickly followed by a gruesome human death. It gets straight to the point, and for that, I do give Don't Kill It a little bit of credit.
It is a B-movie to be sure and is well aware of that fact, and it has no aspirations to be anything greater. It knows the reason why the couple of thousand people across the states are going to watch this, and it doesn't waste your time.
Dolph is in on the joke, and for some inexplicable reason, seems to be doing a Westworld Ed Harris impression. Full disclosure, I watched this less than a week ago, and it is already mostly dissolved from my memory (that is why this writer always takes thorough notes).
I do remember it being better than it looks, and I also distinctly recall having to play volume jockey the night of watching it, as the high volume kills don't quite go with some of the quiet dialogue.
It remains somewhat interesting throughout, but overall, I can't really give you much of a reason to watch this unless you happen to be a gigantic Dolph Lundgren fan.
