Review of Don't Hang Up (2016) by Roxanne R — 15 Mar 2017
A very good morality tale where our pranksters get a taste of their own medicine. We have a group of pranksters that create havoc for certain families and the past comes back to bite them hard. The pace is good, although I predicted certain things from having watched many films prior to this one so I am familiar with the style, plot, etc but still effective.
I have to agree with critic Anton Bitel from Sight and Sound that said some important words: "Even if the game-playing manipulation of 'Mr Lee' seems familiar from many other films, it is presented with real craft - and the moral commentary on the disconnect between online activity and real-world repercussion is very much of the now.
" With the internet, caller-ID and so many other ways to spy on people, you have to be careful what deeds you do over the telephone and online because traces are left and sooner or later karma catches up with you.
Did I feel sorry for the teenagers that got payback for their horrible pranks? NO...they got exactly what they deserved so thank you Mr. Lee. Its not as scary as Scream but with some tense moments nevertheless and totally worth the Redbox rental.
Recommended! Oh yes and think twice before pranking someone because they can turn the tables on you....
