Review of Don't Come Knocking (2005) by Sebastian H — 08 May 2008
Impressive! There were a few things that bothered me indeed, and It took me a while to get hooked up, but once it did, I enjoyed it to the very last bits. What we have got here is a saddening story about a lonely man, who's trying to settle with his past. A very touching and understandable movie.
I was a little reminded of Paris,Texas ,where Harry Dean Stanton comes back after a long time when no one has known about his whereabouts, including his son. In Don't come knocking, Sam Shepard plays Howard Spence, a formerly-famous western film star who leaves the set of his new movie ,and after learning he's got kids, he goes on a journey to find them. Probably, it's loneliness and emptiness which drives him forward, or probably, it's guilt. But the fact is, Howard is a man in search of something, something he shouldn't have let go years ago!
All actors perform perfectly here, most notably Jessica Lange, who proves she's still an actress who can be trusted in every role.Very well done!
