Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Ian G — 23 Oct 2016
Don't Breathe is another addition that slips into the home invasion horror genre that also has some visual flare tributes to the Alien franchise for good measure, it focuses on a group of Detroit youths who are also thugs who are committing robberies in order to finance a way for a fresh start since they lack any kind of opportunity in the hard hit bankrupt city.
Little did they count on was this one which they hit for a reported cash of $300 k had a battled hardened former soldier whose blind with a haunted past involving his daughter which he brings to bare when they are discovered.
The sweeping camera moves and mood is what makes the film work as well as it does, as well as the gristled presence of genre vet Stephen Lang, and also the fact we have another film which the female being the last person standing is always good thing paying respect to genre tropes.
Not sure how I feel about the almost rape near the end of the film if it was really necessary but outside of that not a bad genre pic in a time where it is tricky to find reliable work.
