Review of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) by Tiuri E — 11 Jun 2011
While I could imagine being terrified of this film if I'd watched it as a youngster, today it mainly comes across as an overly slow/long episode of "The Twilight Zone". Still, director Newland emphasizes tone and buildup over excessive creature work or gore, admirable in today's tendency toward overkill.
Was Joe Dante influenced by "Dark" when he made "Gremlins"? I certainly think it's possible.
