Review of Donnie Darko (2001) by Drew B — 14 May 2014
Not enough can be said to describe the bold originality of this film. Donnie Darko is a frightening and creepy look at the troubled mind of one boy, it not only takes us inside his head, but the ideas surrounding his actions, and his frightening motivations.
With a brilliant and bone-chilling performance by Jake Gyllenhall, Donnie Darko is complex, brilliantly bizarre, and creatively confusing. The atmosphere is naturally dark, but what can we say, it matches the characters perfectly.
The film will definitely require two viewings, and will stun you with it's shocking and breathtaking climax.
